💡 Key tip: Black bean aphid (blackfly) piles up on the topmost shoots; after flowering, pinch out the growing tips to both reduce the aphids and speed up pod set.
🤝 Companion logic: It gets along well with spinach, lettuce, potato, carrot, strawberry, the cabbage family, celery, sweetcorn and cucumber; with the rhizobia in its roots it fixes atmospheric nitrogen and supplies it to heavy-feeding neighbours (cabbage family, potato, corn). Marigold and summer savory deter blackfly. Keep it away from onion, garlic, chives (the allium group) and fennel; the allium group suppresses nitrogen fixation, while fennel allelopathically hinders germination/growth
