💡 Key tip: Don't grow it in hot weather where there's a risk of bolting; an early spring or autumn sowing gives the best quality crop.
🤝 Companion logic: Aromatic herbs like sage, rosemary and oregano repel the cabbage moth and flea beetle with their scent (carvacrol/p-cymene) and attract parasitoid wasps; celery also deters the cabbage white butterfly. Alliums such as onion and garlic drive off aphids, cabbageworm and the cabbage fly with their pungent scent; marigold reduces nematodes and caterpillars. Keep it apart from tomato, pepper, strawberry and other brassicas (shared pests/nutrient competition). Beetroot grows in a different root zone, but sources disagree over nutrient (potassium/phosphorus) competition; leave a gap if you plant them side by side.
