💡 Key tip: Reducing watering as the melon ripens concentrates the sugars. The fruit grows trailing on the ground; place pale mulch beneath it to break contact with the soil.
🤝 Companion logic: Garlic deters aphids/cucumber beetle with its sulphur compounds and may reduce fungal disease pressure on neighbouring cucurbits (some sources also note the strong allium scent can slightly suppress melon growth, so add it at a distance); marigold keeps nematodes and insects away; corn provides shade/support; radish is a trap plant for the cucumber beetle; nasturtium traps aphids by drawing them in; bean fixes nitrogen in the soil; borage and dill bring pollinators/predatory insects. Avoid the vicinity of potato and cucumber (nutrient competition and shared pests/diseases).
